This Sunday at 12:00, there will be an opening of the sculpture Light Lungs by ANi (Anna Naduda) supported by NGO “Lungs” and Shcherbenko Art Centre. The location of the event and the place of installation of the sculpture is the Rubtsov glade in the M. M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden. On the occasion of the opening, artist and sculptor Anna Naduda will tell more about the history of her work.

In Light Lungs Anna Naduda raises anthropocenic issues of human place in the natural ecosystem. The sculpture of human lungs created in the form of a woven root visualizes a person’s belonging to nature and begins a dialogue about an important element of human existence that is care for both personal bodily and natural environments.

“The human body is an organic shell, a container of our spirit. No one is able to change global world processes or overcome environmental crises on their own. But we are able to preserve our own ecosystem of the body, live long, and care about plants”, ANi shares the story of creating her sculpture.

Anna Naduda’s projects are presented in many Ukrainian institutions of contemporary art, including Shcherbenko Art Centre. One of Anna Naduda’s first projects was the work Germination, which the artist presented in 2010 within the competition for young Ukrainian artists MUHi, founded by the curator of Shcherbenko Art Centre Maryna Shcherbenko. Since then, interest in nature runs through Anna’s practice and continues to be one of the main themes of her work.
