Description
Okolotok can be understood as the surrounding area or neighborhood in colloquial language. It is believed to have originated from the concept of a guarded site, pounded around by a watchman with a mallet, or it may be traced back to the all-Slavic term "kolo," meaning a circle and referring to districts or neighborhoods.
While Okolotok may not commonly appear in the lexicon of a modern person, it effectively encapsulates the notion of a closed society. Within this context, Okolotok represents a small village that adheres to its own set of rules and concepts, preserving hierarchical structures and archaic ideas about the world order. This village exhibits a sense of cyclicity and a commitment to daily rituals. The characters featured in Laptii photography series "Okolotok" inhabit such a village. Through the use of staged photography as a storytelling method, she strives to portray archetypes, wherein each character embodies a distinct social status and characteristic features representative of a particular archetype.
